Organizers say the partnership with the high school is beneficial for Purdue as well as the students.“I think it’s really important for students to get onto a college campus; and we’re happy to have them here at Purdue, get on a college campus and really see what college is like. To get to interact with college students and get a feel for what this atmosphere is, so that they know that they belong here,” said Darryl Dickerson, associate director of the Minority Engineering Program. Director of the Minority Engineering Program Virginia Booth Womack said she would like to open a “pipeline” of engineers to Purdue.“We want to create streams of flow of students into Purdue. We want to establish relationships with these students early, so that they understand they are already a part of the Purdue family,” said Womack. Womack says she hopes the partnership will increase the percentage of minority enrollment in Purdue engineering courses.
